LAMARR
etfe roof

Scope:

Formfinding & Construction Stage Design

Architect: OMA

ETFE & Cable Contractor: Pfeifer

Collaboration: mlIng

The inflated roof of the new Lamarr building in Vienna is a formfound, ETFE and cable construction. The use of ETFE maximizes transparency and the amount of daylight that can pass through the roof.

High snow loads are resisted by cables supporting the lower layer of the roof, whilst wind suction is resisted by cables at the upper layer. The cables and ETFE layers are supported by a stiff compression ring around the roof.
