PEARSE STREET CANOPY
Scope: Conceptual and structural design
Owner: Mayo County Council
Architect: Accelerating Change Together (ACT)
The primary purpose of the canopy is to provide shelter from rain, supporting the pedestrianization of the street, enhancing the shopping experience, and encouraging increased foot traffic for local retailers.
This intervention is part of the wider Ballina Recreation Quarter initiative. The structure has been carefully designed to reflect the street’s heritage while fulfilling both functional and structural requirements.
Beyond its practical function, the canopy is designed as an architectural feature to attract visitors to Pearse Street and Ballina more broadly. The use of bio-materials and the lightweight design aim to create a presence that respects and complements the historic character of the street.
